Serving tea, China's national drink, is a time-honored wedding ceremony created to show respect for the couple's family and their ancestral lineage. Historically, there were two tea ceremonies. One in the morning before the bride leaves her home, and another ceremony following their vows, when the couple arrive at the groom's family home. In ancient Chinese tradition, the bride leaves her birth family to become a part of the groom's family. Today many couples choose to honor both the bride and the groom's families by hosting tea ceremonies for both sets of parents.
HOW IT WORKS
Every region and family have developed their customs over time. Check with your family for their input on how to organize your ceremony. Choose whether to have one or two ceremonies. Will you have the ceremony prior to you wedding vows, or following the vows, during the cocktail houror reception? Just remember that at the end of the day, it is your special day. Do what you believe is best. One bride chose one all-inclusive ceremony for the parents and grandparents immediately following the ceremony.
